Chrysalis Fabrication

Chrysalis Rail today announce that the Landore Depot in Swansea, South Wales will be re-opened as a rolling stock maintenance and overhaul depot. The depot, which has been closed since December 2018, will re-open it’s doors at the beginning of August to house some of Chrysalis Rail’s latest rolling stock refurbishment and overhaul projects.

The Landore Depot previously operated as the Great Western Railway’s HST maintenance depot before closing last year. Chrysalis Rail will be taking on the site to conduct rolling stock refurbishment, modifications, re-paint and overhaul programmes.

Chris Steele, managing director of Chrysalis Rail explains, “we are delighted to re-open the Landore Depot as a Chrysalis base in South Wales. We currently operate across the UK at both our own sites and our customers depots, and we are delighted to take on a new site which will offer greater capacity and opportunity to continue to provide high-quality rolling stock solutions to the rail industry. This is the next logical stage of evolution in the Chrysalis Rail journey.

There is a great existing local railway talent pool with the relevant knowledge and expertise here in South Wales. We would love to hear from local people interested in a career in the rail industry with the relevant skills, experience and attitude to come and work with us.

The site will have capacity to house our usual rolling stock programmes such as vehicle interior and exterior refurbishment, vehicle modifications such as at-seat power, installing accessible toilets, LED lighting and interior/ exterior re-paint work, as well as the potential to look at storage options too. There are plenty of opportunities to work with us here as well as other locations in the UK.”.

Chrysalis Rail currently conduct rolling stock programmes at their own depot in Long Marston, Stratford-Upon-Avon and in Holbeck, Leeds. These operations, as well as the fabrication arm of the business based in Reading and head office in Crewe, Cheshire will continue to operate as normal.
